Career delayed by spell in military prison; youngest provost sergeant in British army, youngest night news editor in National newspaper industry; near award of drinker's knighthood ('Arise Cirrhosis'). Member of Welsh Academy but failed to get a grant in years, nevertheless author of books but only one best seller, though two on required reading list for students of University of Wales. Fellow of Royal Cambrian Academy of Art (cannot draw for toffee). Used to broadcast weekly to million people worldwide. Now only his greyhound Taz (two speeds fast and fast asleep) listens to him. Doesn't take any notice but listens politely. Two wives, three children (all richer than he is) and six grandchildren (ditto). Buddhist by inclination but worried that Enlightenment has all the aspect of Alzheimer's and dreads being born again on a Delhi pavement.' '
