Jon Gustafson
American authority on the genre and art of science fiction. Jon Gustafson (-20) was Mr. SF. Although he only wrote several SF short stories himself, he was an unsurpassed authority on the genre's art and books. He wrote hundreds of nonfiction articles and columns about SF art for a variety of publications, including Pulphouse, Figment, Westwind, and Science Fiction Review; contributed to multiple editions of the Science Fiction Encyclopedia; edited a number of anthologies; and compiled the edition of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Handbook . He is the author of the biography Chroma: The Art of Alex Schomberg, and, prior to his death, was writing a book on the life and art of Jack Gaughan. Gustafson was also a professional appraiser of SF art and book collections. In he founded JMG Appraisals, the first professional SF / fantasy art and book appraisal service in North America.
