'American best-selling crime fiction novelist, short story and true crime writer. Lee Earle Ellroy has sometimes been called the 'Demon Dog of American crime fiction'. Altough his fiction specializes in capturing the hard-boiled underworld of the s and , his writing style and worldview make his work unique in the noir crime genre. His dark humor and cynicism create a world of alienated characters living amid universal corruption and moral turpitude which he describes with a unique staccato, edgy style of omitting 'necessary' words and freely using sentence fragments. Several Ellroy's novels have been adapted for film including L.A. Confidential which was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won two. He was also the Executive Producer of James Ellroy Presents Bazaar Bizarre. His short stories regularly appear in GQ Magazine, and have also been published in various of his books. In addition to his non-fiction books on true crime, he has written an autobiography, My Dark Places. Feminist author and critic, Helen Knode, is his second wife with whom he now lives in Kansas City. '
