Gene Autry ( � ) had become the top Western star at the box-office by and reached the peak of his popularity in the s. He also had weekly radio show from to , and by was producing his own TV show. By his retirement in , he had made almost a hundred films and over 0 records. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in , the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in , and the Western Performers Hall of Fame in . With Mickey Herskowitz, he co-authored an autobiography published in .
