Marion Zimmer Bradley
American fantasy novelist, anthologists, and short story writer.
Marion Eleanor Zimmer Bradley (1930 - 1999) was a prolific author of mostly feminist
fantasy novels many of which had science fiction overtones. Her best known novel,
The Mists of Avalon, is the first of her Arthurian series. She also wrote the epic
Darkover SF series blending SF with fantasy overtones. Bradley also produced short story
collections, anthologies, poems, scholarly work on lesbian and homosexual fiction, and
even composed Songs from Rivendell, the music and arrangements for several poems
from Tolkien's novel Lord of the Rings. Early in her career, she wrote gay and
lesbian-themed novels under the pseudonyms of Morgan Ives, Miriam Gardner, John Dexter
and Lee Chapman. In 2000, she was awarded the World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement.
